Nyx Assassin vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Thinking Viper's innate tankiness will let him shrug off a gank is a common mistake. The real problem for him is how Spiked Carapace interacts with his damage-over-time spells. A single tick from Viper Strike or Nethertoxin is enough to trigger Carapace, stunning Viper and giving Nyx Assassin an easy opening to unload his full combo. Even stray Poison Attack ticks can become a liability. On top of this, Mana Burn is incredibly effective against Viper's small mana pool, leaving him unable to apply pressure or farm effectively.

This dynamic forces Viper to play scared. Instead of being a lane bully, he's constantly under threat of a rotation from Nyx Assassin. In the mid-game, Nyx actively hunts Viper, trying to pick him off before he can contribute to a teamfight. Viper is often forced into buying defensive items like a Black King Bar or relying heavily on his team's vision and support to survive, slowing down his own timing while Nyx gets to dictate the pace of the game.
