Outworld Destroyer vs Phoenix

How this matchup plays

The attack speed slow from Fire Spirits is a serious problem for Outworld Destroyer. So much of his damage comes from rapid Arcane Orb attacks, and Phoenix can cripple that output for the duration of a fight. This interaction is especially important when dealing with Supernova. An Outworld Destroyer who can't attack quickly is not going to break the egg, which often leads to a fight-winning stun for Phoenix’s team. Icarus Dive also provides a reliable way to escape the setup for a gank or a Sanity's Eclipse.

For this matchup to work, Outworld Destroyer needs his allies to handle Phoenix. If his supports can lock Phoenix down and burst him before he can use Supernova, OD is free to control the rest of the fight. Alternatively, having another core who can output enough physical attacks to destroy the egg on their own can solve the problem. Phoenix dictates the terms of engagement, forcing OD's team to play around his ultimate, which gives him a small but consistent advantage throughout the game.
