Ogre Magi vs Riki

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst an Ogre Magi can be surprisingly difficult for Riki. While Ogre is a slow intelligence hero, a classic Riki target, he has high base health and armor, letting him frequently survive the initial attack from stealth. This gives Ogre a window to turn and use Fireblast. Riki’s Smoke Screen is crucial for preventing this, but Ogre’s whole game plan is to have detection ready. A Sentry Ward completely changes the engagement, allowing Ogre Magi to see Riki coming and prepare his stun, which becomes even more dangerous with Multicast.

Throughout the game, this dynamic creates a tense cat-and-mouse situation. Riki wants to find Ogre out of position and alone, ideally burning his mana with Diffusal Blade before Ogre can react. Ogre’s goal is to survive those ganks with defensive items like a Force Staff and enable his own cores with Bloodlust. Neither hero invalidates the other's job. Success usually comes down to positioning and preparation; if Ogre is ready with detection and near his team, Riki can't do much, but a lone Ogre caught without vision is an easy kill.
