Ogre Magi vs Slark

How this matchup plays

Trying to lock down a Slark as an Ogre Magi is often a frustrating experience. Ogre has the ideal tools for the job: a point-and-click stun and a persistent slow. The problem is that Slark's Dark Pact is the perfect counter, purging off both Ignite and Fireblast if timed correctly. This turns every gank attempt into a coin flip. A lucky Multicast from Ogre can provide enough lockdown to secure a kill before the purge, but a mistimed stun or a quick reaction from Slark means he simply shrugs it off and escapes or turns the fight.

This dynamic means the matchup is a constant game of positioning and execution. Early on, Ogre Magi can bully the lane with his spells before Slark has the levels and mana to use Dark Pact freely. As the game progresses, however, Slark begins to hunt supports, and a lone Ogre is a very easy target. Ogre's best bet is to stick with his team, hoping to land a crucial stun that his allies can follow up on immediately. Slark, in turn, must be careful about jumping in, as a multi-stun from a fortunate Ogre can still end him.
