Pangolier vs Wraith King

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down a target who gets a second life is a tough job for Pangolier. His damage is based on a quick Swashbuckle combo, but that's rarely enough to get through Wraith King's entire health pool and then his Reincarnation on top of it. Pangolier ends up using all his cooldowns for very little payoff. Meanwhile, Wraith King has a simple, reliable stun in Wraithfire Blast that can interrupt Rolling Thunder on reaction, which is a huge problem. Pango relies on that spell to control teamfights, and having it so easily cancelled makes his life much harder.

This dynamic means Pangolier often has to ignore Wraith King entirely, which isn't always possible. In mid-game fights, Wraith King can simply walk at the Pangolier, forcing him to use Swashbuckle defensively to get away rather than offensively to do damage. The best a Pangolier can do is try to play on the opposite side of the fight, or wait for his team to force out Reincarnation before he commits his own spells. The matchup isn't impossible for Pangolier, as he can still use his mobility to avoid the king, but it puts the burden on him to play perfectly.
