Pangolier vs Spirit Breaker

How this matchup plays

Using Rolling Thunder to escape a fight is incredibly difficult against a Spirit Breaker. Pangolier's survival depends on the continuous movement from his ultimate and the quick repositioning of Swashbuckle. Spirit Breaker's kit is built to negate exactly that. Charge of Darkness is a targeted, global stun that finds and interrupts Pangolier no matter where he tries to roll. While the status resistance from Rolling Thunder can shorten the stun's duration, the initial impact is enough to stop the roll entirely. Nether Strike provides another unavoidable lockdown, following Pangolier through a Swashbuckle to ensure he can't slip away.

This interaction puts Pangolier on the back foot for the whole game. Spirit Breaker can repeatedly visit his lane, stifling his farm and making it dangerous to play aggressively. In teamfights, Pangolier can't confidently initiate. If he uses Rolling Thunder, Spirit Breaker can simply hold his spells, wait for the animation, and then cancel it immediately. This forces the Pangolier player to either buy defensive items he'd rather not, or to play passively and wait for Spirit Breaker to use his lockdown on someone else, severely limiting his impact.
