Phoenix vs Primal Beast

How this matchup plays

Trying to run down a Phoenix with raw aggression often backfires. While Primal Beast excels at charging and locking down a single target, Phoenix has the perfect escape with Icarus Dive to create distance from an Onslaught. Even if Primal Beast lands a Pulverize, Phoenix can use Supernova. Primal Beast lacks the inherent attack speed to consistently destroy the sun on his own, turning his own initiation into a dangerous situation for his team. This interaction is the core reason Phoenix feels comfortable playing against him.

This dynamic forces the Primal Beast to play cautiously. In teamfights, Phoenix can safely apply pressure from a distance with Sun Ray while Primal looks for an opening. The Primal Beast player has to either ignore Phoenix, wait for the egg to be used on someone else, or coordinate with allies who can quickly burst the Supernova down. Without that coordination, Phoenix is free to disrupt fights and kite Primal Beast effectively, giving the bird a small but consistent advantage throughout the game.
