Phoenix vs Pudge

How this matchup plays

Pulling Phoenix with a Meat Hook can often be a mistake for Pudge. While it does isolate the target, it brings a hero loaded with area-of-effect disruption right into the middle of Pudge's own team. If Phoenix isn't bursted down instantly, he can use Supernova, and Pudge himself is poorly equipped to deal with it. His attack speed is slow, Rot is damage over time, and he has to rely entirely on his teammates to destroy the egg while they're being burned and slowed by Phoenix's other spells.

This dynamic gives Phoenix a slight edge throughout the game. A Pudge has to be selective with his hooks, as a blind hook might start a fight his team can't win. In lane, Phoenix can make life difficult with Fire Spirits, chipping away at Pudge's health from a safe distance. Later on, Phoenix's mobility from Icarus Dive makes him a tricky target to pin down in the first place. Pudge can still find kills, but he has to play more cautiously and perfectly, whereas Phoenix often benefits from the chaos Pudge creates.
