Phoenix vs Clockwerk

How this matchup plays

Trying to trap Phoenix inside Power Cogs usually ends in frustration. Clockwerk’s entire game plan of isolating a target with Hookshot and Cogs is undermined by Icarus Dive, which gives Phoenix a simple way to fly out of the trap. Even if Phoenix gets caught and is forced to use Supernova, Clockwerk has a hard time destroying the sun on his own. His low attack speed and single-target Battery Assault mean he needs significant help from his team, all while being threatened by the eventual stun from the egg's explosion.

This dynamic forces the Clockwerk player to change their approach. They often have to ignore Phoenix entirely and focus on catching a different, more vulnerable hero. Phoenix can leverage this freedom to get into better positions for Fire Spirits or Sun Ray. The matchup becomes a game of cat and mouse, where Clockwerk tries to bait out Phoenix's defensive abilities or find a pickoff elsewhere on the map. Success for Clockwerk depends on finding those alternate targets before Phoenix can turn the resulting fight.
