Phoenix vs Slark

How this matchup plays

Choosing one hero to counter the other presents a genuine puzzle. Slark seems well-equipped to deal with Phoenix, as Dark Pact purges away the slow from Fire Spirits and Shadow Dance offers a clean escape from Sun Ray. He can even build Essence Shift stacks by attacking the Supernova egg. However, all of Phoenix's damage is area-of-effect, which is perfect for consistently breaking Slark's health regeneration and forcing him to stay visible. Each hero’s kit contains a natural answer to the other’s primary plan, making engagements very situational.

The result is a matchup that often depends on timing and positioning. A Slark who finds Phoenix out of position can secure a kill, dodging spells and sticking to his target. In a larger teamfight, though, a well-placed Supernova can completely zone Slark out or force him into a dangerous commitment to destroying the egg. If Slark is forced to back away, Phoenix's team has free rein to control the fight. The winner is often decided not by the heroes themselves, but by which team better enables their hero's strengths in that specific moment.
