How this matchup plays

Thinking Techies can instantly burst the Supernova egg is a common trap. While Techies does have the front-loaded damage to destroy it, a good Phoenix player is hard to pin down. Using Icarus Dive, Phoenix can fly over dangerous minefields or position the egg on high ground, safely away from a pre-planted trap. The attack speed slow from Fire Spirits also makes it harder for the enemy team to focus the egg down. However, a well-timed Sticky Bomb from Techies combined with follow-up from his allies can still be enough to prevent the rebirth, making the attempt a calculated risk for both sides.

The matchup becomes a battle over teamfight location and vision control. Techies wants to force engagements in choked areas he's already prepared with Proximity Mines, making it impossible for Phoenix to commit to a fight. Phoenix aims to do the opposite, leveraging superior mobility and vision to initiate in open ground where the team can safely fight around a Supernova. The outcome often hinges on which hero's team better dictates the pace and position of the fight, as both have the tools to punish the other for a single misstep in positioning.
