Phoenix vs Ursa

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst someone down as Ursa relies on getting off quick attacks with Overpower. Phoenix makes this incredibly difficult. A single cast of Fire Spirits will cripple Ursa's attack speed, preventing him from building Fury Swipes stacks and effectively turning his burst damage into a slow trickle. This fundamental interaction shuts down Ursa's main purpose. On top of that, Ursa is a single-target hero who struggles to destroy a Supernova egg by himself, especially if his attack speed is already slowed. He’s left with no good options in a fight.

This advantage for Phoenix defines the game's tempo. Ursa wants to snowball from early kills, but Phoenix can save gank targets with his abilities or simply escape with Icarus Dive. This forces Ursa to build defensively, often needing an early Black King Bar just to function, which delays his own core damage items. Meanwhile, Phoenix can dictate fights from a safe distance with Sun Ray or reset a bad engagement entirely with Supernova, leaving Ursa feeling helpless as he gets kited and controlled.
