Primal Beast vs Warlock

How this matchup plays

Picking one of these heroes into the other is a bet on who can land their spells first. Primal Beast has all the tools to get on top of Warlock and delete him from a fight with Pulverize before he can react. Warlock is slow, fragile, and a perfect target for that kind of focused aggression. The problem for the Beast is that Warlock’s entire kit punishes divers. Fatal Bonds makes Trampling through the enemy team a liability, and a well-placed Chaotic Offering can stun Primal Beast right as he initiates, completely turning the tables.

The outcome of a teamfight often hinges on that initial engagement. If Primal Beast can find Warlock with a surprise Onslaught or a Blink Dagger, Warlock often dies without contributing much. The fight is decided by that pickoff. If Warlock and his team have good vision and positioning, however, they can be ready. Warlock can drop his Golem to protect himself, follow up with Fatal Bonds, and use Upheaval to kite the enraged Beast while his team focuses him down. It forces both players to think carefully about vision and who makes the first move.
