Pudge vs Riki

How this matchup plays

Catching Riki with a Meat Hook is a constant struggle. He can use Blink Strike to dodge it or time Tricks of the Trade to become invulnerable, making it very hard for Pudge to land his key initiation. Even if Pudge does get close, Riki's Smoke Screen can be a huge problem, silencing him and preventing the Dismember channel. A Pudge caught inside the cloud is often a sitting duck, unable to cast spells and slowed by the smoke. The whole dynamic revolves around whether Pudge can actually land that initial spell on such an evasive target.

This matchup often comes down to vision and execution. A Pudge who buys detection and holds his hook for the right moment can instantly delete Riki from a fight. If he can pull Riki out of position and into his team, the fight is often won. Riki’s goal is the opposite: bait out the hook, wait for Pudge to show himself, and then jump in to disrupt him and his teammates. Since both heroes have clear ways to outplay the other, the outcome is rarely decided at the draft screen and instead depends on who plays better on the day.
