Pudge vs Sven

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down Sven with a hook combo can be a serious mistake. A successful pull and Dismember on most carries is a kill, but Sven has answers. With a press of Warcry, he gains a significant armor and speed boost, allowing him to survive the initial damage and either escape or turn the fight. If he activates God's Strength, Pudge might find he has brought a world of pain right on top of himself. Pudge’s own tankiness from Flesh Heap can help him absorb a few hits, but it’s a dangerous game to play.

This matchup is less about one hero countering the other and more about who makes the first mistake. Early on, Pudge can punish a poorly positioned Sven, but this becomes much riskier as the game progresses. A farmed Sven with his ultimate ready isn't a good hook target. Smart Pudge players will usually ignore him and look for a softer hero to isolate. Sven, in turn, is more concerned with hitting buildings and winning teamfights than he is with chasing a Pudge around the map, making their direct interactions fairly even.
