Pudge vs Warlock

How this matchup plays

Hooking Warlock feels like the right play, but it often backfires. A successful Meat Hook on Warlock just brings him into perfect range to use Chaotic Offering, stunning Pudge and anyone nearby. This completely turns the initiation around, leaving Pudge's team facing a Golem while he's stuck in recovery. Even a good Dismember isn't a guaranteed kill. Warlock can use Shadow Word on himself to heal through a portion of the damage, buying time for his allies to arrive or for Fatal Bonds to punish anyone who tries to help Pudge finish the job.

The result is a standoff where both heroes want to play around each other's key cooldowns. Early in the game, before Warlock has his ultimate, Pudge has a much easier time securing kills and controlling the lane. Later on, a smart Pudge will learn to ignore Warlock entirely and focus on hooking more vulnerable targets who can't punish the pull. Warlock, in turn, will often position himself as bait, daring Pudge to make a mistake. Success depends less on the direct matchup and more on which hero makes the better decision about when and where to commit their ultimate.
