How this matchup plays

Hooking onto Viper is a high-risk, low-reward play for Clockwerk. Viper is naturally durable and his Corrosive Skin immediately punishes Clockwerk for trapping him in Cogs. Even if Clockwerk’s team follows up, Viper can often survive the initial burst and turn the fight with his slows and damage-over-time. Poison Attack and Viper Strike can make it impossible for Clockwerk to disengage if the gank fails, leaving him stranded and vulnerable. This dynamic discourages Clockwerk from treating Viper as a primary target, forcing him to adapt his initiation plan.

The matchup often becomes a game of positioning and target selection. A smart Clockwerk will use Rocket Flare to scout for a more fragile hero to jump on, trying to bypass Viper entirely. Viper, in response, will position himself to protect his supports and make any initiation attempt on his backline a dangerous overextension for Clockwerk.
