Sand King vs Undying

How this matchup plays

Trying to land a big multi-hero Epicenter often gets complicated by Undying's Tombstone. The zombies force your primary targets to scatter, denying Sand King the clean, clumped-up initiation he relies on. Even if you find a good Burrowstrike, the slows from the zombies can be enough to prevent an escape with Sand Storm after the combo. Undying can make fights messy and drawn-out, which is the opposite of the quick, decisive burst that Sand King wants to deliver with his ultimate. The slows and general chaos make it much harder for him to get in and out safely.

This pressure starts in the lane, where Undying can use Decay to bully Sand King and make it difficult to farm. A delayed Blink Dagger for Sand King means Undying and his team have more time to control the map. Later on, Sand King has to be much more careful about his initiations, often waiting for Tombstone to be used or destroyed before committing Epicenter. He isn't helpless, though. Sand King can still find pickoffs on isolated heroes away from the tomb, and Caustic Finale can help clear zombies if he gets the chance to land a few attacks, which keeps the matchup from being too one-sided.
