Sand King vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Facing off against each other often comes down to a standoff of abilities. Sand King wants to use Burrowstrike and Epicenter to initiate, but Viper’s toolkit is well-suited to stopping that plan. Corrosive Skin makes getting close to him painful, while a well-placed Nethertoxin can silence and break Sand King, completely ruining his Blink Dagger combo. On the other hand, Sand King can use Sand Storm to farm safely or even channel his ultimate if the Viper player isn't ready with detection. Neither hero has a truly free path to executing their game plan against the other.

This dynamic means the lane can be frustrating for Sand King, as Viper can bully him with constant slows and damage over time. Later in the game, the matchup becomes about positioning and vision control. If Sand King can get a clean initiation on Viper from fog, he can burst him down with his team. If Viper sees the Sand King coming, he can use Viper Strike to cripple his mobility and kite him to death. The fight often hinges on which hero's team better enables them to get the jump on the other.
