Shadow Demon vs Wraith King

How this matchup plays

Trying to set up a kill on Wraith King with Disruption is a mistake that gives the game away. The whole point of the spell is to create powerful illusions of the target, but Wraith King's illusions are completely worthless. They don't have his Mortal Strike or lifesteal aura, so they hit like wet noodles and die instantly. Using your main setup spell on the enemy carry and getting nothing for it is a disaster. Furthermore, Demonic Purge does little to stop him, since it can’t prevent Reincarnation, which is the main problem to solve.

This core disadvantage makes the entire game difficult for Shadow Demon. He can't pressure Wraith King in lane because WK can sustain through the harass, and a single stun is often a death sentence for a fragile support. In teamfights, Shadow Demon is forced to use Disruption on a less important hero, leaving the nearly unkillable enemy carry free to walk up and hit his team. The fundamental tools in Shadow Demon's kit simply fail to address what makes Wraith King a threat.
