Shadow Demon vs Spirit Breaker

How this matchup plays

Trying to hold Spirit Breaker in place is the whole problem for Shadow Demon. Demonic Purge is a great tool for peeling and controlling most heroes, but Spirit Breaker is built to ignore it. The status resistance from Bulldoze drastically shortens the Purge's duration, allowing him to shake off the slow and continuous dispel much faster than anyone else. This leaves Shadow Demon with few ways to stop a Charge of Darkness aimed at him, as he has no mobility or escape. He's a squishy, slow hero who becomes a primary, easy target.

This dynamic forces Shadow Demon to play from deep behind his team all game. He has to hold Disruption to save whichever ally Spirit Breaker charges, which means he can't use it aggressively to set up kills. If he ever gets caught slightly out of position while warding or moving between lanes, he's a free kill. Spirit Breaker can repeatedly force out the Disruption on a core, then simply turn and eliminate the now-defenseless Shadow Demon. A successful game for SB means making the enemy support completely irrelevant, and this matchup provides a clear path to do so.
