Using Global Silence right as a fight begins stops Sven from casting Storm Hammer or Warcry, which are essential for his initiation. This delay is often enough for your team to kite or burst down his allies before he can even start hitting people with God's Strength. Before his ultimate is ready, Silencer can also make laning difficult with his other spells, punishing Sven for using his abilities to farm or trade. The constant threat of silence disrupts the precise timing Sven needs to be effective in fights, forcing him to play more reactively than he wants to.

This advantage is kept in check because Sven has a very clear solution: Black King Bar. Once Sven has BKB, he can ignore Global Silence and attack freely. The matchup then shifts to a game of positioning and timing. If Sven can find and kill Silencer at the start of a fight, the threat is neutralized.
