Skywrath Mage vs Slark

How this matchup plays

Applying a full magic burst to Slark is a constant test of timing. Skywrath Mage relies on Ancient Seal to amplify his damage, but Slark’s Dark Pact can purge the silence and slows if used correctly. This makes it incredibly difficult to guarantee a kill with Mystic Flare. If Slark gets caught with Dark Pact on cooldown or gets silenced before he can react, he melts quickly. However, a patient Slark can often bait out the spells, purge the important debuffs, and then easily turn on the fragile Skywrath. The fight often comes down to a split-second reaction from one player or the other.

This tension defines the matchup all game. A Slark will actively hunt for a lone Skywrath, who is a free kill if caught out of position. Skywrath’s best bet is to stay behind his cores, providing vision and using his instant silence to lock Slark down when he Pounces in. A Slark who commits and can’t immediately dispel control is a very vulnerable target for the entire enemy team. The game becomes less about the heroes themselves and more about positioning and which team can better enable their respective hero’s plan.
