Skywrath Mage vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Landing a silence on Viper is often the deciding factor in a duel. Skywrath Mage can prevent Viper Strike or a defensive Nethertoxin, creating the window to unload his damage combo. Because Viper lacks a natural escape, he can be vulnerable to this kind of magical burst. The problem for Skywrath is Corrosive Skin, which punishes him with damage and a slow for every spell he casts. This turns what should be a clean kill into a costly trade, often leaving Skywrath in a dangerous position himself, which keeps the matchup from being one-sided.

Throughout the game, this dynamic creates a cat-and-mouse situation. Viper is a strong laner and can bully a fragile Skywrath Mage early on. As the game progresses, however, Skywrath's job becomes finding pickoffs on isolated targets, and a slow-moving Viper is a prime candidate. Viper, in turn, has to play carefully, either staying with his team or ensuring he has enough vision to see Skywrath coming.
