Skywrath Mage vs Weaver

How this matchup plays

Forcing Weaver to play from behind is the core of this matchup. Skywrath Mage has access to an instant silence that prevents Weaver from using Shukuchi to turn invisible and run, or from using Time Lapse to undo a burst of damage. Following the silence, Skywrath has more than enough magical damage to kill a fragile hero like Weaver before he can react. A successful gank like this is hard for Weaver to recover from, as he relies on momentum and being elusive to get his farm and apply pressure. A single mistake against Skywrath can mean a trip back to the fountain.

Throughout the game, this threat dictates how both heroes play. Weaver has to be extra careful about his positioning and will often be forced to buy defensive items like a Black King Bar or Linken's Sphere earlier than he'd like, potentially slowing down his damage output. Skywrath Mage's goal is to find Weaver and lock him down before he can get these items online or when his defensive abilities are on cooldown. It becomes a game of vision control and timing, where Skywrath has a consistent tool to punish Weaver, but it requires finding the right opportunity.
