Sven vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Controlling Sven in a fight often relies on the tools Viper brings. A well-placed Nethertoxin disables Great Cleave, which cuts out a huge source of Sven's area damage. This forces him to attack single targets, making him much easier to manage. All of Viper's abilities apply slows, making it incredibly difficult for Sven to connect with his attacks, even after using Warcry for the movement speed. If Sven does manage to get on top of Viper, Corrosive Skin punishes him for every hit he lands.

The outcome really hinges on timings and initiation, though. Sven can completely negate Viper’s control with a Black King Bar, giving him a clean window to act freely. With a Blink Dagger, Sven can instantly jump on Viper and often burst him down with a Storm Hammer combo before Viper can react with his ultimate. The game becomes about who sets the terms of the engagement. Viper wants a long, drawn-out kite, while Sven is looking for that one perfect jump to end the fight before it really begins.
