How this matchup plays

Laning against Viper often feels impossible for melee heroes, but Tidehunter handles the pressure surprisingly well. The constant dispels from Kraken Shell remove Viper's corrosive slows and damage-over-time effects, making it very hard for him to secure a kill. This allows Tidehunter to farm safely, ignore a lot of the intended harassment, and hit his item timings without falling too far behind. Viper can still control the lane's pace, but he can't easily translate that pressure into a real advantage against such a durable opponent.

As the game progresses, their roles diverge. Tidehunter is looking for a big teamfight initiation with Ravage, focusing on locking down multiple heroes at once. Viper, on the other hand, wants to sit on the edge of fights, melting a single priority target and applying his break effect. Neither hero is a natural target for the other's main plan. Viper often builds to be tanky against magic, while Tidehunter is more concerned with the enemy carries. They end up playing their own games, and the outcome depends more on their respective teams than on their direct interaction.
