Ursa vs Viper

How this matchup plays

Thinking you can run down any hero as Ursa is a common mistake, and Viper is a prime example of why. His entire kit seems designed to frustrate a charging bear. Corrosive Skin and Poison Attack stack slows, making it almost impossible for Ursa to stay on top of a target without help. The real problem, though, is Nethertoxin. Standing in that pool disables passives, which means Ursa’s Fury Swipes stop building up damage. This turns a high-threat burst hero into a slow, easily kited target until he can get out of the area.

This dynamic forces Ursa to play differently. You can’t simply charge in; you need a Blink Dagger and ideally an Abyssal Blade to lock Viper down before he can react. A Black King Bar is also essential to shrug off Viper's slows and magic damage. If Ursa gets a clean initiation, he can still blow Viper up. But if Viper has any warning, he can place his Nethertoxin at his feet, apply his slows, and walk away. The advantage isn't huge, but it forces the Ursa player to be perfect while Viper has more room for error.
