Viper vs Warlock

How this matchup plays

Laning against a Warlock can be frustrating for Viper. The constant corrosive damage from Viper's attacks is meant to grind down an opponent, but Warlock can often negate much of that pressure with Shadow Word on his laning partner. This turns the lane into a resource battle where neither hero gets a decisive advantage. Viper has to continuously apply pressure to be effective, while Warlock can often play from the back and wait for his longer cooldowns, making it difficult for either side to truly win the lane.

Later on, the dynamic becomes about initiation and positioning. Viper wants to pick off a single important target with Viper Strike, while Warlock wants to land a huge Chaotic Offering on multiple heroes. A well-placed Golem can easily lock down and kill a Viper who gets too close. On the other hand, if Viper and his team can find and kill Warlock before a major teamfight, they remove a massive threat from the map. The matchup often hinges on which hero gets to execute their game plan first.
