Why this works

Setting up a kill with this pair can feel awkward. Dark Willow has good lockdown with Cursed Crown and Bramble Maze, which on paper should guarantee a full-duration Unstable Concoction from Alchemist. The core issue is that their timings are misaligned. Alchemist wants to spend the early and mid-game focused entirely on farming, avoiding fights to maximize his gold advantage. Dark Willow, however, thrives on creating early action and pressure. She often ends up wanting to fight when her main core doesn't, leaving her impact somewhat stranded.

As the game progresses, this disconnect continues. Alchemist needs his team to create space for him, but Dark Willow is a fragile support who can't establish a front line or offer strong defensive saves. When Alchemist is finally ready to fight with Chemical Rage, he needs a team that can enable him to run at the enemy. Willow prefers to play from the backline, and using Bedlam puts her at high risk without a tankier core to draw attention. They both need protection but can't effectively provide it for one another.
