Alchemist + Lion

Why this works

Setting up a gank with Lion's lockdown feels effective, but the partnership often lacks a deeper connection. Lion provides reliable stuns and a Hex, which are useful for securing a kill on any single target. However, this doesn't directly accelerate Alchemist's primary goal of farming. While Lion is looking for pickoffs around the map, Alchemist is usually busy hitting creeps to build his item advantage. The duo's timings can feel disconnected; one hero wants to fight and create pressure early, while the other wants to avoid conflict and maximize gold.

As the game progresses, this dynamic remains. Once Alchemist has his core items and is ready to fight, Lion's single-target control is certainly welcome. Pinning an enemy down allows Alchemist to get on top of them with his ultimate. The problem is that this is a very standard interaction that doesn't offer anything unique. The pair lacks tools to deal with multiple threats or save each other from coordinated attacks. Their success relies on executing simple pickoffs, and if the enemy team groups up effectively, the limitations of this generic pairing become clear.
