Alchemist + Venomancer

Why this works

Softening up the whole enemy team for a farmed carry to clean up sounds good on paper. Venomancer excels at applying damage over time with spells like Poison Gale and Poison Nova, making multiple targets weak. However, Alchemist's game plan revolves around hitting specific item timings by accelerating his farm with Greevil's Greed. This often means he can't participate in the early and mid-game aggression where Venomancer is strongest. The result is a tempo clash, with one hero wanting to fight constantly and the other needing dedicated time away from the action.

In practice, this means teamfights can feel disconnected. Venomancer can apply his poison, but without strong lockdown to hold targets in place, Alchemist may struggle to connect and finish them off during Chemical Rage. The duo lacks the instant burst or chain-disabling that Alchemist often relies on from his supports. While Venomancer's slows and vision from Plague Wards can be useful, the core damage types—slow magical DoT and fast physical attacks—don't amplify each other effectively, leaving openings for the enemy team to recover and reset the fight.
