Axe + Dark Willow

Why this works

Thinking about Axe and Dark Willow on the same team often brings to mind the worst-case scenario: Terrorize scattering a perfect Berserker's Call. While this can happen, it overlooks their other powerful interactions. A Cursed Crown is an excellent, visible timer for Axe to blink in and land his Call, guaranteeing he catches the right heroes. Dark Willow can then use Bramble Maze to trap anyone outside the taunt, preventing saves or counter-initiations. The two heroes provide a huge amount of lockdown together, but the order and placement of their spells are what matter.

This duo is strongest during early ganks and pickoffs, where a single stun leads to a kill. As the game shifts to five-on-five teamfights, the coordination becomes much harder. A poorly timed Terrorize from Dark Willow can absolutely lose the fight by saving the enemy team. The correct usage is often to split the fight, using the fear on backline heroes while Axe deals with his isolated target. The enemy will try to bait these big spells and capitalize on the chaos, so Axe and Willow have to be on the same page about who they are targeting and when.
