Why this works

Playing for early map control is often the goal with this pair. Axe provides a powerful setup for Queen of Pain's damage, using Berserker's Call to lock down enemies in a tight group. This gives her a perfect window to Blink in and land both Scream of Pain and Sonic Wave on multiple heroes at once. This initial burst can be overwhelming, allowing the two to find pickoffs across the map and create pressure from the laning stage onward, which can snowball into taking early objectives and controlling the game's tempo.

This entire strategy, however, hinges on Axe landing a clean initiation. The plan is straightforward and can be countered by good positioning and common support items. An enemy team that spreads out, has good vision, or is ready with saves like a Glimmer Cape can easily nullify the combo. If Axe gets disabled before he can Call, or if he only catches a single target, Queen of Pain is left in a risky spot. The success of this duo often depends more on the enemy's mistakes than its own inherent strength, making the outcome feel pretty unreliable game to game.
