Bristleback + Shadow Fiend

Why this works

Pairing these two cores often creates a draft that's missing a key ingredient. Bristleback offers a fantastic frontliner, drawing attention and creating chaos for Shadow Fiend to safely deal damage from behind. The minus armor from Presence of the Dark Lord also helps Bristleback's own damage output from Quill Spray. The core issue is that neither hero provides the hard lockdown needed to enable the other. Bristleback's slows are rarely enough to guarantee Shadow Fiend can land a full set of Shadowrazes or a devastating Requiem of Souls, leaving their combined potential somewhat unrealized.

Teamfights become very reliant on the rest of your team's composition. If you have other heroes who can provide stuns, the duo can function perfectly well; Bristleback makes space and Shadow Fiend cleans up. Without that external setup, however, opponents can often walk past the Bristleback and collapse on the fragile Shadow Fiend. This forces fights into a simple damage race, where your success depends entirely on whether Shadow Fiend can kill the enemy divers before they get on top of him, making the outcome of any given engagement feel unpredictable.
