Dark Seer + Drow Ranger

Why this works

Giving Drow Ranger a Surge seems like an obvious way to solve her mobility issues, helping her kite with Frost Arrows and reposition in fights. The combo can feel effective when chasing down a single hero or escaping a simple gank. The problem arises from their conflicting goals in a teamfight. Dark Seer wants to pull enemies together with Vacuum for his spells and allies, but this grouping can put opponents right on top of Drow, disabling her Marksmanship passive. Dark Seer thrives in a messy, close-quarters brawl where his Ion Shell gets value, while Drow wants to hit safely from a distance.

This tension defines how their games play out. Early on, Surge offers a decent escape from pressure, but the duo’s real test is the mid-game teamfight. The success of a Vacuum setup depends entirely on Drow's positioning and the enemy's composition. If the other team lacks strong initiation or burst damage, Drow can use the space created by Dark Seer to her advantage. But against heroes with multiple gap-closers or stuns, the speed boost alone often isn't enough to keep her alive, and the pair offers little else to protect its main damage source.
