Dark Willow + Skywrath Mage

Why this works

Setting up a Mystic Flare is frustrating for Skywrath Mage when his partner is Dark Willow. Her primary stun, Cursed Crown, has a delay that gives enemies plenty of time to walk out of the damage before they're locked in place. Bramble Maze is also too unreliable to hold someone for the full duration. This core timing mismatch makes their kill attempts feel inconsistent. Worse, Dark Willow’s Terrorize actively pushes enemies away, directly countering what Skywrath wants to do and often saving the target by accident.

This lack of a reliable lockdown combo hampers them all game. Opponents with basic mobility or a Force Staff can often escape what should be a guaranteed kill. While Dark Willow and Skywrath Mage can put out a lot of magical damage in teamfights, it's unfocused and fails to delete priority targets without help. They end up relying on other teammates to provide the instant, single-target stuns that their own kits are missing. Without that setup from another hero, both can feel ineffective and vulnerable once their spells are on cooldown.
