Dark Willow + Viper

Why this works

Pairing a stun with a damage dealer seems like a good plan, but these two heroes have conflicting ideas of a good fight. Viper’s power comes from sustained, corrosive damage that wears enemies down over time. He wants to apply his slows and poisons and chase. He doesn't have a big damage combo that needs the setup from Cursed Crown or Bramble Maze to land. Dark Willow, by contrast, excels at setting up quick kills with her lockdown and Bedlam. Her spells are meant to enable immediate burst damage that Viper simply doesn't provide, making the control feel less impactful.

This mismatch plays out all game. In lane, they have redundant slows but lack the focused aggression to consistently dominate a lane. Later, Viper wants to be a slow-moving frontliner, methodically sieging with Nethertoxin and daring enemies to fight in his poison. Dark Willow is much better at creating chaos from the flanks and finding pickoffs on the edge of a fight. She can't really protect a committed Viper from being collapsed on, and he can’t effectively follow up on her more chaotic initiations. They often end up playing two different games on the same team.
