Why this works

Setting up ganks with a Dragon Tail into a Phantom Strike is the main idea here. Dragon Knight provides a long, reliable stun that gives Phantom Assassin a free window to get on a target and start landing crits. He's also naturally durable and happy to stand in front, soaking up spells and creating space for PA to move around the edges of a fight and pick her moment. The problem is that both heroes are almost entirely physical damage dealers. This means enemy itemization is very straightforward; once they identify the threat, they know exactly what to buy to counter the entire core duo.

This draft often needs to snowball from the mid-game. If Dragon Knight and Phantom Assassin can chain kills together before the enemy team comes online, they can build a lead that's hard to overcome. But if the game goes even or the enemy drafts defensively, things get tough. A single Ghost Scepter can shut down a gank, and core items like Assault Cuirass or Crimson Guard on the enemy team will dramatically reduce the impact of both your heroes in teamfights. The game can start to feel like you're hitting a brick wall if you don't secure an early advantage.
