Drow Ranger + Phantom Assassin

Why this works

Thinking that Drow Ranger will buff up a Phantom Assassin is a common mistake. Drow's Marksmanship aura only provides bonus agility to ranged heroes, meaning the melee PA gets no benefit from it at all. This leaves you with two heroes who largely do the same thing: deal physical damage from a distance (or once on top of a target). They both need a lot of farm to function and are vulnerable to being controlled and burst down. Drow's slow and silence can be helpful, but it's not the kind of reliable setup that a hero like Phantom Assassin needs to guarantee a kill.

This pairing often creates a greedy, one-dimensional lineup. Having both Drow Ranger and Phantom Assassin on the map means two cores are competing for safe farm, making it easier for the enemy to pressure your other lanes. In teamfights, your draft lacks magical burst and often the hard control needed to initiate fights on your own terms. The strategy defaults to hoping both carries get farmed enough to overwhelm the enemy with raw damage. While this can certainly work from ahead, it's an unstable plan that leaves little room for error and few options for a comeback.
