Drow Ranger + Skywrath Mage

Why this works

Picking these two heroes together creates a lane that can be very oppressive on paper. The combination of Frost Arrows and Concussive Shot makes it difficult for an enemy to move, and stacking Drow Ranger's Gust with Ancient Seal provides a long silence duration. The fundamental problem, however, is that Skywrath Mage's Ancient Seal amplifies magic damage, which does next to nothing for Drow's physical attacks. They provide a lot of the same utility—silence and slows—but lack the hard stuns needed to truly lock down a target for either Drow's arrows or Skywrath's Mystic Flare to have their full impact.

This lane often wins its early phase through sheer harassment, but the duo's shared weaknesses become a liability as the game progresses. Lacking lockdown or survivability tools, they are extremely vulnerable to ganks and coordinated dives. Once an enemy hero with a gap-closer gets on top of them, there is little one can do to save the other. In teamfights, both Drow Ranger and Skywrath Mage need to be positioned far in the back. This means they can't effectively peel for each other, and a well-executed initiation can often take both of them out of the fight at once.
