Grimstroke + Skywrath Mage

Why this works

Pairing single-target ultimates with Soulbind seems like a powerful plan, but it's often a trap. Skywrath Mage's Mystic Flare has a tiny area of effect. Even when Grimstroke tethers two enemies, they're usually too far apart for a single Mystic Flare to hit them both. This means Skywrath still has to pick one of the two targets to nuke, largely defeating the purpose of the combo. The dream scenario of deleting two heroes at once requires them to be basically stacked on top of each other, which good players will actively avoid.

This leaves the duo feeling a bit awkward past the laning stage. Early on, their combined slows and magic damage from spells like Stroke of Fate and Arcane Bolt can be a real problem for a single enemy hero. But as the game progresses into five-on-five fights, their impact becomes very conditional. If the enemy team is disciplined and maintains spacing against the Soulbind threat, the big combo never materializes. This forces Grimstroke and Skywrath to play more like two separate heroes rather than a cohesive unit, which is why their performance together can feel so inconsistent.
