Kunkka + Phantom Assassin

Why this works

Pairing Kunkka and Phantom Assassin together often feels like running two separate game plans that happen to be on the same team. Kunkka’s toolkit, with Torrent and Ghostship, offers control that can theoretically set up kills. X Marks the Spot can even guarantee that a target Phantom Assassin jumps on can’t escape. The issue is that Phantom Assassin is already excellent at sticking to her own targets. Between Stifling Dagger for the slow and Phantom Strike for the gap close, she rarely needs help initiating on a lone hero. Kunkka’s setup can feel redundant rather than truly enabling.

This dynamic plays out in teamfights where the two heroes frequently have different priorities. Kunkka is looking to land a multi-hero Ghostship and cleave through the enemy team with Tidebringer. At the same time, Phantom Assassin is usually looking for an angle to blink onto a vulnerable support in the backline. While a big stun from Kunkka can create an opportunity for her, she’s often able to find her own openings. They don't actively work against each other, but they don't directly amplify each other’s strengths, making their combined success depend more on individual skill than any inherent combo.
