Lion + Pudge

Why this works

Seeing a Meat Hook pull someone into a Hex and stun chain sounds like a guaranteed kill, but the reality is more complicated. The issue is that both heroes specialize in single-target lockdown. While Lion can set up an easy hook, or follow up on one, their combined spells are often overkill for one target. Pudge can frequently secure a kill on a hooked enemy with Dismember alone. This means Lion's contribution can feel redundant, rather than complementary, as the duo invests all their control into neutralizing a single hero while the rest of the fight happens.

This pairing lives or dies by the early to mid-game. If Lion and Pudge can secure a string of pick-offs, they can build a lead that's hard to overcome. Their entire game plan revolves around finding isolated targets. The strategy falls apart when the enemy team groups up and pushes as five. Against a coordinated push, they can usually only delete one hero, often trading that kill for a lost tower or a bad teamfight. This makes the lane's success very dependent on snowballing before the other team can force fights on their own terms.
