Lion + Shadow Demon

Why this works

Struggling to build an early gold lead is common with this pairing. Both Lion and Shadow Demon are fragile supports with poor wave clear and weak physical attacks, making for a very passive lane. They can't effectively trade with opponents, push out the lane to secure runes, or contest pulls. Their only real threat is a mana-intensive combination of Disruption setting up for Lion's stuns, which isn't a guaranteed kill in the early game. Because both heroes need a fair amount of experience to come online, they often leave the laning phase poor and under-leveled.

This weak start creates a difficult path forward. The enemy carry often gets an uncontested lane, hitting their item timings much faster. As the game transitions, Lion and Shadow Demon can try to set up a pickoff with their spells, but they lack the survivability to stand their ground in a real teamfight. Opponents will often exploit their inability to clear creep waves by constantly pressuring towers. This keeps your team on the defensive, unable to find the space or proactive ganks needed to get back into the game.
