Lion + Windranger

Why this works

Pairing these two often feels like bringing two of the same tool to a job. Both Lion and Windranger specialize in single-target lockdown and magical burst damage. While Lion's Hex or Earth Spike can set up a nice Shackleshot, it's frequently overkill. The combined effort is usually spent blowing up one hero, which either hero could often accomplish with help from a different, more complementary ally. They end up competing for the same role in a gank rather than creating new opportunities, as their skills don't cover each other's weaknesses, like dealing with illusions or providing saves.

This single-minded focus on pickoffs can leave your team exposed. After Lion and Windranger use their spells on one target, the rest of the enemy team is free to counter-attack. The combo lacks sustained teamfight presence or ways to control a chaotic battle. Smart opponents will simply group up, making the single-target nature of this duo a liability. They will bait out the initial burst and then win the wider fight, forcing you to constantly find isolated heroes, a strategy that falls apart as the game goes on.
