Marci + Shadow Fiend

Why this works

Struggling for map control often defines the game for this pair. Both Marci and Shadow Fiend can be played as cores that need significant gold to come online, creating friction over resources from the start. This economic pressure is compounded by their conflicting playstyles. Shadow Fiend is a fragile hero who needs protection and setup to deal his damage safely. Marci, however, is a diver who uses Rebound to leap deep into the enemy team. Her aggression is hard for an immobile ally like SF to follow, and her desire to go in means she isn't positioned to peel for him when he gets focused.

Teamfights tend to feel disjointed as a result. Marci might land a great Dispose on a backliner, but Shadow Fiend is often too far away or exposed to capitalize effectively before the target recovers. The ideal scenario of Marci buffing SF with Sidekick and then holding someone down for Requiem of Souls is rare. More commonly, the enemy team identifies the fragile SF as the primary target. Marci lacks the defensive abilities to save him from a coordinated gank, leaving one of their main damage sources neutralized before the fight even gets going.
