Morphling + Skywrath Mage

Why this works

Setting up a Mystic Flare seems simple with this lane partner, but the execution is awkward. For Morphling to deliver a long-duration stun with Adaptive Strike, he has to shift nearly all his stats into Strength. This leaves him with almost no Agility, crippling his own attack damage in the process. While this might secure a kill for Skywrath Mage, it turns a hard carry into a temporary support. This trade is rarely worth it, as Morphling is sacrificing his own farm and kill potential to enable a partner who really needs a dedicated setup hero.

This conflict of interest defines their games together. Early on, Morphling wants to be in high Agility to last hit and pressure the lane, not sitting in high Strength waiting for a gank opportunity. Later in teamfights, the choice is even starker. A high-Agility Morphling can't offer the lockdown Skywrath needs, leaving Skywrath vulnerable. A high-Strength Morphling provides the stun but contributes almost no damage himself, which is a disaster for a team relying on him as a core. They both end up wanting the other to play in a way that goes against their own strengths.
