Shadow Fiend + Nyx Assassin

Why this works

Getting caught out of position against this pair can feel impossible. Nyx Assassin provides the perfect setup, often initiating from invisibility with Vendetta before landing a long-duration Impale. For that entire stun duration, the target is a sitting duck. This gives Shadow Fiend a wide-open window to land a full combo of Shadowrazes, layering a massive amount of magical burst on top of Nyx's initial damage. On paper, it's a simple and effective way to delete an isolated hero from the map before they can react.

The problem is that this entire strategy hinges on successfully executing those pickoffs. If Nyx Assassin misses his stun or the enemy team plays safely grouped together, the gank potential fizzles out. This duo doesn't offer much to each other in a full five-on-five teamfight beyond that initial burst attempt. Furthermore, Shadow Fiend is a greedy hero who needs significant farm to hit his timings. If Nyx's early rotations don't create enough space or secure kills, Shadow Fiend can fall behind, leaving the pair without the damage needed to be a threat later in the game.
