Phantom Assassin + Sand King

Why this works

Setting up kills for Phantom Assassin often relies on a teammate pinning a target down, and Sand King provides that with Burrowstrike. A successful stun lets PA use Phantom Strike to get on top of her victim and start hitting. The follow-up damage is a mix of magical from Sand King's Epicenter and Sand Storm, and massive physical burst from Phantom Assassin's crits. This makes it awkward for enemies to itemize defensively, as they can't simply stack one type of resistance to survive the initial assault.

The effectiveness of this duo hinges on execution. In the mid-game, they can roam together and consistently secure pickoffs, which helps Phantom Assassin snowball. However, the combo is predictable and has a shared weakness. Both heroes have to commit deep into enemy territory to be effective. If Sand King misses his initiation or the target is saved, both heroes are left overextended and vulnerable. Teams with good counter-initiation or area-of-effect control can turn the gank around, punishing both heroes at once and leveling the playing field.
